[ Knoll opened the door slowly and carefully--he had planned on lingering within it earlier but it was easy to get a little restless and at least step out for food. Of course he brought a certain book because he couldn't risk leaving it lying around in his room, due to its...nature. But, anyway-- ]
...Velvet?
[ He just wanted to make sure he wasn't walking into a bad situation (her cleaning, her doing other things.) ]
[Luckily for Knoll, Velvet's finished all her cleaning for the day. She's just sitting on her bed, relaxing as she looks over a book about sailing. She puts it down, not bothering to save her place.]
[ ... He wonders if he would honestly prefer that. Well, he decides he might. ]
I'd prefer for it to be 'gotten it over with', if it meant that the bloodshed wasn't any of ours, giving us a chance to give our captors some sort of retribution...
[ Knoll returned towards his regular room for this evening; he was rather tired despite having mostly surrounded himself with books that day. Except for one isolated incident.
...Then, he opened the door after turning his key, before he halted and hoped that he didn't walk into her cleaning up the room or otherwise. So, first, he'll ask cautiously: ]
[Is knocking not a thing in his universe or something? She could go on and on about manners and how he already technically opened the door so he should've said something before unlocking it, but she figures that's not what either of them needs right now.]
[ One of these days, his habit of forgetting to knock is going to bite him in the ass. Today is, luckily, not one of those days. ]
Oh, good.
[ He'll set like five books on top of his bed. He's been mulling over something in his head the entire day. He's not sure if his roommate is the best to ask, but she's still someone he would. ]
... Velvet, I was wondering... how would you -- yourself -- show your appreciation for when someone has done so much for you?
[She considers it for a moment. This sort of thing is rare for her... usually it's some kind of deal. Like she agreed to kill Eizen, or how Rokurou kept following her. Saying thanks isn't something that comes easily for a Lord of Calamity.]
I'd live. If they're that kind of person, I'm sure that's what they'd want. And I know that's what I'd want.
[ Others had wanted him to live on, when he held such little will to do so. Knoll knew, if something bad had happened to him during the earlier weeks of this mess, it wouldn't be worth it to put up a struggle.
He was weak, he knew this. The stronger people would live on...
But, if showing his appreciation was living, he wanted to try. For him. ]
...I hadn't considered expressing appreciation in such a way. I'll...try that, but...I can only hope that I am successful, against all odds. And, I do thank you--as it is still something.
Week 2, Friday evening
...Velvet?
[ He just wanted to make sure he wasn't walking into a bad situation (her cleaning, her doing other things.) ]

Yeah? What is it?
no subject
I suppose I was making sure that I wasn't walking in on something I shouldn't be.
[ ... ]
... Did you expect we'd already see so much chaos in such little time?
no subject
[She lets out a sigh.]
Although I guess it has to given what they told me...
no subject
[ Though, to be fair, he wasn't sure what he was expecting, exactly. ]
Hm? Did they tell you something else?

Week 5, Tuesday evening

Yeah? It's fine. Come in.

You told me that birds fly because they enjoy flying. So enjoy it. Anything more than that just complicates things.
no subject
[ Was that easier than surviving? Probably not. He can't ever think about enjoying much about this place.]
I don't know if there's anyway I could enjoy any of this, but...I suppose there might be a way.

[ ... he'll open up a book. ]
I was curious to hear what you might say. Whatever the case, it's helped, as I wasn't sure who else to ask.
[ Actually there were probably a lot of other people he could've asked, but amongst them, Velvet is not a stranger, so. ]

[ He mutters a name, and his voice is so quiet at first it makes him realize he has to repeat it. ]
Lord Percival.

Yes, I do. Why do you ask?

I'm not sure if it really would, since others do refer to him simply as such, but... I'll try it.

[ Knoll took out a piece of paper and began writing on the paper with the book as brace. He's thinking about what he's learned recently. ]
Velvet...how much do you know about our situation?
